Mixed Messages in Hospitals?

Posted by Maria Kang on December 13th, 2006

In a place where you would think health and fitness would be promoted - a lot of ambiguity has been placed on whether or not having fast food chains in hospitals sends the correct messages.

Current research has found that many kids are confused by the symbolic messages of a hospital selling junk food. No surprise here considering there are continous, contradicting messages in the media and in our local communities.

Personally, I feel that any brand needs to elevate its image by staying consistent with its core values. While I don’t think all fast food restaurants are bad, I think that at this delicate point in obesity history, we need to take some action to deliver correct messages to the future of America. Moreover, I also think that parents need to set positive examples for their kids and that regardless of what is ‘mixed in messaging’ regarding health, the parent ultimately symbolizes the ultimate message.

Hospitals and Fast Food don’t mix…at least not right now.
