Cleo Gylde makes peace after her “11 Grape Diet”

Posted by Maria Kang on April 20, 2007

“The more I punished myself, the more fashion rewarded me.” – Cleo Gylde, former model and MC’s new style director.

Wow! What a statement!

Thank you Minji Wong for sending me this article about a model who starved her way to success. The 11 Grape Diet is not a diet as much as it is a ploy for people to read a story about a former model who understands the pressures and pain to work in an industry that promotes unhealthy behaviors.

“There is such a thing as a healthy model — a girl who got dealt the thin card. But as sunken-cheeked chic creates an undertow that drags regular-shaped women into a losing battle only models used to have to fight, I believe a mantra of self-acceptance needs to be put out there. Once you make peace with who you naturally are, life is an incredible feast.” – Cleo

While this is a ‘fitness’ site…I’m slowly but surely trying to evolve these posts…I do think that it’s important to have a healthy mind that will then manifest itself into a healthy body. When you are insecure, in need of social acceptance or trying to play by the beauty rules in society…that lack of mental awareness will eventually drive you down physical limits that are not good.

How many articles need to be written on this in order for people to stop using rail thin celebrities/models as Role Models?

How many studies do we have to perform in order to people to start getting active?

How many family members have to suffer or die from health related diseases in order for us to start taking care of our bodies??

I wonder…I really, really do.
