HOW to hire the BEST TRAINER

Posted by Maria Kang on May 7th, 2007

I received an email from a great friend who asked me what he should look for when searching for a great trainer. I am copying and pasting what I have on my personal website under my FAQ’s:

I want to hire a trainer. What should I look for?
Look for someone you have been either reffered to, have watched train others or have done lots of research on. The trainer needs to be certified by a good organization and experienced for many years. Just because someone looks fit, doesn’t mean they know anything. Find someone you can both connect and easily communicate with. Lastly, find someone who has a lot of integrity and makes you feel really good after the first meeting.

In general - it is very simple when it comes to finding someone. The bottom line to any end result when trying to find the best employee/trainer/mate is this:

FIND someone who meets the qualifications (ie. knows about fitness) and knows how to teach it. Being a teacher means TRUSTING the person you are with and having full faith in their capabilities to take you to that next level. Being a personal trainer in the past, I know that the number one reason why some clients succeed and some clients don’t is because of their relationship with their trainer.

The trainer must exhibit attributes of inspiration, motivation, education, dedication and most of all: passion.

I highly suggest everyone to at least attempt having a trainer once in their lifetime. I definitely think it is well worth the investment.

Make the investment with yourself.
