Miss Universe contestants are NOT Fitness Role Models
WOW! I’m sure a lot of people would be shocked that I just said that. ACTUALLY I AM JUST STATING ‘MISS UNIVERSE CONTESTANTS ARE NOT FITNESS ROLE MODELS FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON’
I unfortunately did NOT watch the controversial pageant (although I have it recorded for when I return home. btw - I’ve been watching pageants sine I was 6) but I DO know a thing or two about what it takes to win a prestigious pageant like Miss Universe.
The pageant depicts what we see in media: women who are framed for perfection and have nipped, tucked and disguised every flaw to win a $250,000 crown a year of adoration.
Personally, when overweight, unhealthy, ‘almost-diabetic’ teens are watching this pageant, it doesn’t make them feel like: “HEY! I can be up there someday.” or “I want to be as fit as her” - because the fact is, is that the majority of them can’t.
1. Most contestants are over 5′7. (the average height in American is 5′4)
2. Most contestants have had plastic surgery. (most of the successful South American countries have been notorious for this - in fact, I would even venture that our Miss USA had a breast job) I am NOT against surgeries, but I do feel that the average viewer cannot afford nor should begin considering changing a physical factor because of insecurity.
3. The contestants proportions are almost too perfect. Some contestants have a waist-to-hip ratio that is skewed because they create breasts that are size 36, they have a waist that is 23/24 and hips that are probably 36. That makes the hour glass shape even more ‘hourly’ - more than the average of course.
Besides not measuring up to the ‘normal’ girl, there are other reasons why I don’t think they fit the perfect fitness role model:
- Their primary goal is to look good. They get paid for it! (wouldn’t you look good if that was the case)
- They have a team of people assisting them
*** HOWEVER! I do feel that MISS UNIVERSE AND MODELS ARE FITNESS ROLE MODELS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE THE SAME GENETIC COMPOSITION AS THEM!
My point here is to:
- MAKE sure you find idealistic and realistic role models
- Find those who are similar to your genetic make up

The winner, who hails from Japan, is 5′8! That’s a tall Asian girl!

Runner Up, Miss Brazil is 5′9

I got this off of the Miss Universe website - but I realize that this is LAST YEAR’S line up (after noticing some old contestants - wow! Someone should notify the site! haha! I’m surprised I noticed!)
