Fitness Struggles with Passive People.

Posted by Maria Kang on July 24, 2007

I was asked this question recently from a friend who was starting a new business. What is interesting is that most people who are doing something ‘different’ and independent from the herd always get negative feedback.  A lot of people who are starting to lose weight, have lost weight or have completed fitness goals were surprised to discover the ugliness that resides in passive lives of people.

Question: What is it about people, that react to a person following their dreams? I have never had more people upset with me, or my “partner” trying to control everything.

MY Quick Answer:

Few things:

- people are fearful of what they don’t know
- people who are weak don’t conform with those who are strong.
- you will be defying everything that leads them to live the passive they exist in day in and day out.

——-

How do you overcome this?

1. Make new friends

2. Inspire your current friends

3. Get used to being different

I would rather be alone than be with people you can’t be yourself around. Right?!! :-)

Wow! Maria you are absolutely right about fitness struggles with passive people. I have been feeling so different around certain friends for being me. I have inspired a couple here and there for a couple weeks and then they go back to them ol’ selves. They look at me like what I am doing is wrong. But I am just trying to be healthy and strong! I love the 3 reasons to overcome this.

I also wanted to say thank you for this website. I come here as much as possible and I find it very helpful. Thank you for everything :)

This posting is just what I needed. I’ve been dealing with something similar over the course of a year or so. I’m glad I’m not alone. I’ve better my life & my health. It’s as if “friends” miss the old person that use to party ALL the time & live a negative, empty, unhealthy lifestyle. I LOVE the new me & I wish the people I was once close with would accept my new found relationship with God & myself and kick to the curb the weak person they once knew…the OLD me. As much as I will miss them, I know you are right and must find new friends that continue to push me in the right direction & lift me to higher limits.

Have a blessed day Maria! Mahalo….SC

Thanks for these comments – you know, lastnight I was at a girlfriend’s house and we were discussing how she wanted to lose weight and how all her friends were telling her she looks fine. And of course I asked her, which friends? Not me? BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH SHE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL, THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT. And the people who were giving their two cents were heavier and not as motivated. So YES, be around kind energy. Your environment can either bring you up or take you down.
