Here is the best of what’s happening in the fitness blogging world today!:

Detox Diets

In recent years there has been a lot of buzz regarding detox diets and now you can find detox formulas in local health food stores, herbal supplements, and spas, all claming to help cleanse your body, especially the liver and kidneys from toxins.  But what works and what doesn’t work?  Here are some tips to help you make a better informed decision about trying a detox supplement or treatment.

If you are going to try a detox diet, do it for a short time.  Most of these detox diets and treatments require an exclusively liquid diet which can pack a punch with vitamins and minerals, but can leave you a little gassy also.  Don’t go beyond 3 days, and if so…Read more here.

Ultimate Workout - Actor Jason Statham

I was at my parent’s house today when I noticed on the coffee table the October issue of Men’s Health. On the cover was actor Jason Statham who is known for his roles in the Transporter movies as well as other action movies like Crank and the upcoming War with Jet Li. Like with most celebrities, I was curious to find out what type of workout he does as well as his diet.

17 Pounds in 6 Weeks

The article starts off with Jason talking about some extra weight he accumulated and the way he looks now which is basically ripped - chest, abs, etc. With his current workout and diet, he managed to lose 17 pounds in 6 weeks. Let’s take a quick look at how he achieved this:

Workouts consists of:

  • 6 days a week for 35 minutes a day (Sunday is rest day)
  • Saturdays are 1 hour trail runs
  • 10 minute warm-up utilizing a rowing machine
  • 10 minute medium intensity (light weight circuit, kettlebells, medicine ball throws)
  • Interval training - the final stage
  • Keep notes of every workout in a journal

Diet consists of:

  • 2000 calories per day
  • No refined sugar, flour, fruit juices, or alcohol
  • Six small meals per day
  • Tries to drink 1 1/2 gallon of water per day
  • Writes down every meal in a journal

Not surprising is that Statham says the rapid weight loss had mostly to do with his eating habits. I also found it interesting that he…Read the rest here.

Sexercise!

Blind dates who are much older than they claim online, drunk surgeons, O.J. Simpson.

Not everyone deserves a second chance.

Sex and exercise, on the other hand, are definitely worthy of a round two. You already know that exercise makes you look and feel better. But did you know that exercise, quite literally, makes you want to have sex? After a good workout (not limited to the gym, think hike, bike and climbing too), men and women alike experience a spike of testosterone (the famed “pump” of bodybuilding), the hormone that influences sexual arousal. And, yes, exercising improves blood flow to the genitals and reduces stress; a cycle which can lead to more sex. Read more here.
