Three P’s to Success. (my tool)

Posted by Maria Kang on October 19th, 2007

Successful people are planners.

A person who reached the top of Mount Everest or created the latest and greatest company, planned to do it.

They didn’t wake up one day and decide that they were going to be great.

They made a plan, they prepared for the cause, and they did it.

One of the biggest things that I do yearly/monthly/weekly/daily is plan out my “Three P’s”

Here they are (in no particular order ;-)

Personal: goals dealing with family, friends and spiritual, personal growth.

Physical: goals dealing with health and fitness

Professional: goals dealing with projects and career ambitions.

Here are the steps in creating your success blueprint:

1) MAKE THE FIRST MOVE TO MANIFESTATION and INVEST TIME IN WRITING. Your first investment will be a small journal. (even those dollar ones)

2) Start to BRAINstorm. The way I start any brainstorming process is through freesytle writing. I just start to write. JUST WRITE whatever comes to mind.

Ask yourself:
- what do I want?
- why do I want it?
- how do I feel?
- how do I want to feel?
- what will make me feel happy?
- why am I not already happy?
- who am I to me?
etc. etc. etc. etc.

3) After brainstorming, start DREAMING. Start writing down all concrete visualizations of how you want all your positive thoughts and feelings to manifest. This could be in the strength of a physical body, a better relationship with your father or a pay raise at work.

4) Create a FOCUSED INTENTION. After you’ve completed the most important session, then you’ve got to take all that info and start breaking it down into Focused Intentions. State what you want and how you want to feel. (this is where adjectives gets important)

For example:

Personal: Trusting relationship with parents, God, and friends.

Physical: Confident Healthy physique that makes me feel proud and sexy.
Professional: Secure, exciting, work environment where I am being valued and growing with a team of people.

5) BREAK ‘FEELINGS’ DOWN INTO YOUR PHYSICAL WORLD. Now that you’ve created Focused Intentions, now you’ve got to break it down even more concretely. Take those adjectives and break it down even more:

Personal: Go out to lunch one day a week with parents. Email a good friend once/week. Pray every morning.

Physical: Perform cardio 3x/week in the morning and drink more water.

Professional: Lead a new project at work and have more one-on-one time with supervisor.

** Keep in mind that as you journal, complete goals and challenge yourself, you will alter these goals. ALL goals should be realistically broken down into the smallest time frame. (i.e. break everything down to this very moment and what you can do RIGHT NOW)

6) After you brainstorm, dream and plan….now you must PREPARE. Preparing yourself is all about gathering all the necessary ‘tools’ needed to help you succeed. That can be good food in your fridge, or purchasing a weekly planner to help you visualize your timetable. The biggest preparation you will need is mental preparation: so keep that in mind when getting ready to execute.

7) EXECUTE. And keep all your goals where you can see them every day.

The Last thing I have to say about the “Three P’s” is that all your goals align with each other. There is a balance in being physically fit, professionally successful and personally engaged with yourself and others. It can also be re-written as “Mind-Body-Spirit”

Look at a one year plan and
Break it down into 6 months
Then Break it down into 3 months
Then one month
Then one week
Then one day
Up to RIGHT NOW.

For example: If I wanted to lose 40 pounds, (if it takes 2 pds/week weight loss) then it will take me approximately 20 weeks. That’s 5 months! What can I do to burn the right amount of calories to get me to that number total? (Multiply 40 pounds with 3500 calories) BTW: 3500 calories burns 1 pound of fat!

I don’t have a calculator, so I won’t do all the math for you, but I suggest you look into how many calories you are consuming per day and how much activity you are expelling through activity and make the correct adjustments.

If you want more info on activity and calories click here.

Good luck and start writing RIGHT NOW! wooohoo to today!

What kind of life do YOU want to build??

Before I clicked on this article I thought I’d give it a guess as to what the 3 P’s are that you were going to mention. Here’s what I came up with:

Preparation, Patience and Perseverence. I think if you apply these to most anything in life you will succeed. Especially in fitness, where results don’t come overnight.

I love the article though, it made me think
