How to get a Fitness Cover Model Body!

Posted by Maria Kang on November 15th, 2007

Isn’t it cool to see the SAME person on two separate magazines? I’ve seen it happen to Monica Brant a couple times….and maybe Jennifer Nicole Lee. But, as I was trying to find some great magazines on my road trip I found Jelena Abbou not only on Oxygen but on Muscle and Fitness for hers.

This beautiful girl has been gracing the cover of magazines for a few years now and is frequently covered modeling training articles for Oxygen. She also has an AWESOME spread in the Flex issue of hot girls that came out late this summer!

She came to the U.S. from Serbia to make it big in fitness. Go Jelena!

Check out this awesome article on how to get a Cover Model Body!

——

Get a cover-girl body in 10 simple moves. Oxygen cover model Jelena Djordjevic has graced the pages of countless books and magazines and is about to help you get your big break.

It’s a classic fairy tale: Girl risks everything and moves from an oppressive Communist regime to the Land of Opportunity. Girl walks down a busy New York City street, sees a crowd gathered and goes over to investigate. Magazine casting staff ask her to do a test shot for the model search. Girl is chosen and is whisked off for her first professional photo shoot. Girl appears in a national men’s magazine and her career is launched.

Sound too good to be true? Not if you’re Jelena Djordjevic. This Serbian beauty is not only a pro figure competitor, she’s fast becoming a sought-after fitness model who’s graced six magazine covers in less than two years. Here she shares her secrets for success and offers insight on how anyone can become a cover model – or at least look like one.

“Let’s face it. Most fitness models are blond,” Jelena says. “My dark hair and eyes make me stand out.” While her colouring may provide a natural advantage, she doesn’t rely on her ethnicity to advance her career.

Jelena has applied her strong work ethic to transforming her physique into one that magazines want to feature as an example of elite fitness. “I was so skinny when I moved to the U.S.,” she says. “I had to learn everything about weight training and proper nutrition to develop muscle and sculpt my body.” After training for six years, her shape is muscular but feminine; a balance she believes most women desire to achieve.

the workout

“I use this total-body workout a lot when I’m on the road, in a hotel gym or at home because it doesn’t require a lot of equipment,” Jelena says. “The exercises are basic, but I find that I get great results with them.” She likes to prepare for her photo shoots by doing this circuit the day before she goes on location. “Most of the time, I don’t get much time to prepare, so I have to be ready always,” says Jelena, who has done more photo shoots than she can count. “The most I typically have time for is a good all-over workout, a tanning session and a good night’s sleep.”

To get a body like Jelena’s, do three sets of 10 to 15 repetitions of each of the following 10 exercises. Alternately, you can do them consecutively as a circuit, repeating it three times. It takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete if you do it at a high-intensity rate and with only 30 seconds or so of rest between sets. Jelena says that depending upon your diet and how athletic you already are, it will take four to six weeks to see results from her program.

Making the cover

With six covers to her credit, Jelena knows what it takes to earn such a coveted spot on a fitness magazine. Here are some tips on how to follow in her footsteps:

Be an active competitor: Publications are more likely to feature athletes who are active in their careers, to both promote the sport and to inspire up-and-coming competitors.

Stay in good shape year-round: If your physique is always camera-ready, you can be available and prepared for photo sessions on short notice.

Send your photo to the magazines: Most of the responsibility for being ‘discovered’ is yours, so you must promote yourself to get noticed.

Pray: There’s a lot that’s out of your control, so do what you can and then hope for the best.
