15 Tips for a healthy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
I’m hurriedly typing this as I have a 10k run for “Feed the Hungry” in about 1.5 hours! I came back from my trip yesterday and BOY! Was it fun. I put everything on a slideshow that you can view here.
I’m a little scared about running today considering I haven’t done full out workouts for about 1.5 weeks because of traveling…at the same time, I ran a half marathon with no preparation, no food and practically no water or sleep! ha! I’m crazy, I know
So today is the big day of “gluttony” - I am actually excited to spend the day with my family and NOT concentrate on the food. I have found that in experiences past, whether it be Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, Halloween, dinner’s out…
that I became anxious when I was around food.
I couldn’t control my portion size..I couldn’t say ‘enough’…I just was ‘bad’ when I ate bad and was extremely ‘good’ when I ate good.
That type of extremity in thinking and acting is never good as moderation is absolutely key - EVEN on a day like this.
So here are my tips for all y’all going to a big, fat, lunch/dinner today.
1. Focus on the occasion and not so much the food.
2. Enjoy time spent with family and friends.
3. Drink a lot of water.
4. Envision how you will act at the party (if you are already perceiving eating loads of junk that is not a good sign!)
5. Don’t arrive hungry. Eating something first.
6. Eat protein and veggies before you dove into the carbs and sugar.
7. Wait 10 minutes before you get 2nd helpings (allow your body to digest and become satiated first)
8. Eat ssllloowwwllly
9. Bring your own personal dish that is healthy
10. Think about the consequences of overdosing on sugar today and how it will effect your moods tomorrow and Saturday.
11. Get active so you don’t feel guilty. (play outside, run a 10k in the morning
12. Don’t sit next to the dessert table.
13. Eat a little bit of everything (not A LOT of some things)
14. Be reverent of the food and don’t make it a gluttonous holiday
15. Hang around someone who doesn’t eat very much (as you will eat less around them)
Thanksgiving is about family - not about FOOD!
