Fitness Rants: Traveling, Sickness and The Fit Expo!

Posted by Maria Kang on February 19th, 2008

It was Monday afternoon, after we drove away from a successful podcast with Toa, when I finally felt completed drained. This morning, after two late nights this weekend, I awoke 2 hours later than my initial wake up call. In the dark, I plopped my laptop on the bed and updated Fitness Cure while doing some research for my interview. After a quick 10 minutes I jumped out of bed to wash my face, put on my workout clothes and baseball hat to make it downstairs to grab coffee before my quick 30 minute high intensity workout. As soon as I was done, David began packing everything while I jumped in the shower and ran out of the hotel in less than 10 minutes. We were stuck in traffic and arrived an hour later than scheduled…
This past weekend we were in LA for the Ironman Fit Expo and was on a whirlwind of ‘things to do’ the ENTIRE time. While I ate probably around a 5/10 while there - OBVIOUSLY that is not a score I like to give myself. Especially since I’m trying REALLY hard to stay focused -

HOWEVER, my focus has been de-railed.

- I WAS SICK FOR A WEEK

- I SUFFERED FROM A REALLY PAINFUL PERIOD FOR A WEEK

- I HAD A PHOTOSHOOT THAT MADE ME WANT TO ‘RELAX’ AFTER I WORKED HARD FOR THAT DAY

- I HAD A MINI VACATION MID-CHALLENGE

So - if you can only imagine, all these things really made me lose a little bit of drive. HOWEVER, when I fall some of my girlfriend’s in LA they noticed that I had dropped some weight, which made me super, duper happy! :-)

So how do you get yourself out of this slump??

- Eat clean RIGHT NOW

- Get back on track.

- Examine WHY you are lacking focus

- Have a ‘truth’ with yourself.

SO - here is my truth:

I definitely feel that I lacked an ‘end date’ to my fitness challenge. While I have April 4th as the big day, there is nothing I really rewarded myself for completing the 12 weeks. In the past, my focus was driven by an upcoming contest or photoshoot - but none of that was happening anytime soon. My sister’s wedding is in July so I DEFINITELY want to be in shape for that, but that doesn’t create an ‘urgent’ feeling….so I REALIZE TODAY THAT MY LACK OF ‘END REWARD’ IS REALLY PREVENTING ME FROM MAINTAINING LASER FOCUS!!

I also know that I am not PREPARING my meals as well as I once did and while I drink protein shakes, take my supplements and workout, I really ENJOY eating meals I placed into tupperware and there is a MENTAL EFFECT it takes on me when I know I’m ‘doing good.’ :-)

Lastly, all these recent challenges with being sick, traveling, busy, etc - took its toll…

SO - here is what I am going to do:

- PLAN out my week

- PREPARE my meals

- CREATE an End Date and Reward

CHECK OUT MY PICS FROM THIS WEEKEND!

Cathy LeFrancois is going to be competing at the Arnold Classic in 2 weeks! Wow!
She was crazy shredded.

With ‘Little Hercules’ all grown up -

With my good friend, “Big Jonathon” :-)
Although…I call him “Tiny Jeremy” (inside joke :-)

Jamie Eason was looking awesome! She’s such a sweet person.

This is actually my first picture with a cardboard person!

Doing the pushup challenge at the Army booth!

50 was easy! I used to win all my pushup contests against guys!

On a Tandem bike getting ready to ride with David on Sunday afternoon.

Breakfast Monday morning - on the go!
(I had to cleanse after this whole weekend!)

I recorded a new podcast with Tanoai Reed, “Toa”, on American Gladiators.
He is sooo down to earth, REAL, and absolutley motivational.
