I bought my Dad Tai Chi Classes
My dad is getting old.
Well – not really. BUT he should be developing new habits now that he is retired!
When you are a proponent of fitness, people are not surprised, shocked or offended when you get them anything fitness oriented. And many times – YOU have to help lead them into the wonderful world of fitness.
YOU are the LINK to the people who work out and the people who don’t.
It’s kind of like being the ‘liason’ to friends who have never traveled to Europe…when you already have.
They want to know how it’s like – how it feels – how great it is…
Most of all, they want to know HOW to do it.
There is a greater importance you have that you may not realize.
YOUR ROLE is to make people want to go to Europe!
JUST KIDDING!
Your role is to make people comfortable with FITNESS.
So…
- buy the Tai Chi Classes
- bring them as a guest to the gym
- make your friend dates be workout dates
- talk about how great you feel about working out
- be the BRIDGE that will connect them to FITNESS!
The Benefits of Tai CHI:
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of slowly flowing movements and shifts of balance that strengthens the legs while conditioning the tendons and ligaments of the ankles, knees, and hips, increasing their range of motion and making them more resilient, less prone to injury. The continuous flowing movements of Tai Chi are based on the principle that running water never stagnates. The gentle movements relax your muscles and joints while strengthening your body.
Through movement and meditation, Tai Chi brings you health of body and peace of mind. Tai chi is a form of exercise that can improve muscular strength, flexibility, and aerobic fitness, as well as having additional health benefits.
Their benefits are well proven and are there for all to enjoy. Making an effort to practise regularly will enable you to enter the door to the many joys of what these arts have to offer. Tai chi is extremely effective in improving balance and posture, and mind-body health. More benefits are listed below:
- Tai Chi… reduces some stress hormones- Tai Chi uses calming, structured movements to counteract the stress of living in today’s fast society. An over-stressed mind makes errors and interferes with the healthy functioning of the body. Your mind and body will begin to rest thoroughly in the tranquil state that comes with Tai Chi practice.
- Improves balance – thereby reducing the risk of falling (the leading cause of death by injury in older folks). According to The Mayo Health Letter (February, 1998) – “In recent years, a gentle form of ancient Chinese martial arts, called tai chi, has gained attention as a method for improving balance… reduced their risk (of falling) by about 40%.” Read the rest here.

That’s a great point about being “the LINK to the people who work out and the people who don’t.” It’s cool to be an inspiration to other people!
