REVIEW: Bigger..Faster..Stronger!!! The movie about Steroids!
From the producers of Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11, a new movie for the fitness masses: BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER, has just hit the airwaves. It is a film that will cut down to the deepest core of who we were as kids and how we developed and matured as adults.
Similar to the lead characters in this documentary Christopher Bell and his two brothers, my siblings and I also watched wrestling, American gladiators, teenage mutant ninja turtles, etc. We loved the action, the fighting, and especially the warrior-like presence of the characters whose strength, vigor and winning edge was the product of their muscles, muscles and more muscles!
This movie really captures the essence of our insecurities, our thoughts and our contradictions throughout our life…especially when trying to find a truth in who we are…
All of us have an insecurity when we are little.
All of us have a dream and desire to become something extraordinary as adults.
All of us have a role model we work to become like…
….
And sometimes, but not often….some of us take a route that is dangerous, extreme and distant from the ‘regular’ world.
I’ve seen it often as I’ve done my fair share of the bodybuilding circuit. It seems all the people who compete have the same thought cycle:
- Their favorite competitor and all time ‘hero’ is Arnold Schwarzenegger
- They all want to move to Venice Beach and train at the ‘original Gold’s gym’ and make it ‘big’
- They all want to ‘go Pro’ in the bodybuilding sport..
- They all sleep, live, breathe Bodybuilding.
- Lastly, they will do ANYTHING (include taking massive amounts of steroids) to make it happen.
The movie covers ‘these types of people’ as well as those who feel is ‘normal’ like athletes, fitness models and more. I have found this movie to be incredibly engaging since it never seemed to be either for or against steroids…it just brought the facts onto the table.
It talked about politics behind the steroid ban, about side effects within the body and about the psychology of the people who use.
It’s an intriguing movie that is a necessary watch for all those who uses steroids, have used steroids, knows of people who does use…or just people who are interested in a controversial topic that will continue to haunt our health and sports news for years.
