Ex-Trainer Confession: I’m horrible to train with.
Even pregnant, I still have a lot of stamina with a little alien in my tummy
But pushing more weight even though I’m prego is NOT the reason why I’m not that fun to workout with.
It was called to my attention by my fiancee’ that I tend to critique a lot. I don’t MEAN to critique, Especially openly….but when I see posture, breathing, or technique that is WRONG, then yes, it’s sooo natural for me to say something.
Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m a woman and he’s a man.
It also probably doesn’t help that I’m pregnant…
and that I talk a little loud and have a ‘bootcamp-like voice’ when I train
BUT.
I can’t help it.
My impulse to say something about one’s training is not subject to my fiancee and friends alone - I have been KNOWN to call people out whom are total strangers JUST because I care. Seriously! I wouldn’t want someone to injure themselves. It doesn’t matter if you are an 18 year old student or a 300 pound seasoned weight lifter. I’ll take ya on!
I especially enjoy it when I learn from the conversation, I get to know another member and I have others available to openly critique me as well. Hey! I can handle it!
So if you have a friend or boy/girl friend who you are ‘embarassed’ to train with, think about this:
- try telling them politely how you like to be spoken to
- suggest a non-open way of correcting your exercise
- know internally that they are just tryin to help
- or just choose to not train with them anymore (and pray you won’t get injured of course

WRONG!!!
