Post-Prego Fitness Blog: I’m losing weight ssllloowwwlly

Posted by Maria Kang on March 30, 2009

When I was younger, I used to drop weight like THAT. 2 pounds a week was average for me.

BUT now, it seems like I’m eyeing the scale like CRAZY to see it only go done a pound a week. The only good thing about losing weight this slow is that my firm belief that: THE SLOWER YOU LOSE WEIGHT, THE SLOWER IT WILL TAKE FOR THE POUNDS TO COME BACK UP AGAIN.

Haven’t you ever met a yo yo dieter? They can usually drop 10 pounds in two weeks then gain 15 pounds the next two weeks. SO….I’ll just remain patient and see if I can tweak my diet or exercise more to speed it up just a little bit.

What will I do?

- drop my caloric intake by 100 calories

- stop eating so much carbs at night (I don’t eat a ton, but I’ve been training at night more, making my last meal later)

- weight train a little longer by performing one additional exercise (I started wtih 3 different exercises per body part)

IN HAPPIER NEWS:

- My baby is now 11 weeks!

- I did a photoshoot last week for a magazine 10 weeks post-partum

- I fit into my old jeans more comfortably now

- I worked out almost every day last week!

My goal this week is to really focus on the diet aspect. I want to also create a schedule that works for me…I haven’t been training so much at 6am because of the baby’s fussiness in the morning..and to be completely honest, he looks so cute, I don’t want to leave him!

I also like taking classes at night.

SO I need to figure out something consistent that works. I LOVE working out in the morning and getting up early…but I also like training at night with the group classes. I DON’T want to overtrain, so…!!!!???!!

Do you read your Fast Food Labels?

Posted by Maria Kang on March 30, 2009

I do! I started reading them when they posted it discreetly on the wall behind the counter…in fact, I used to ask for them as a teenager! These days you can easily find it on being food packages. I LOVED being able to turn my sandwich around and see the nutritional content on my fast food wrapper!

Do you read the labels?

Study Finds Few Fast-Food Customers Review

A study scheduled to be published in the May issue of the American Journal of Public Health suggests that less than 1 percent of fast-food patrons review nutrition information provided by the restaurants, Reuters reports. The finding comes as several states and cities consider following New York City’s lead in enacting legislation requiring chain restaurants to post the calorie content of food items on menu boards. To assess how often consumers use the nutrition information provided by restaurants, researchers from Yale University watched consumers visiting two different locations of McDonalds, Burger King, Au Bon Pain and Starbucks in Manhattan, New Haven, Conn., and the Connecticut suburbs of New York City. Consumers were considered to be viewing the nutrition information if they walked up to a poster with the data and turned their heads toward it, picked up a pamphlet on nutrition information, or touched the computer screen that Au Bon Pain restaurants use to provide nutrition information. According to the researchers, of the 4,311 people purchasing food at the restaurants surveyed, only six looked at the nutrition information. Specifically, two McDonalds patrons accessed nutrition information before making a food purchase, and two reviewed the information following a purchase. Meanwhile, three Burger King patrons looked at provided nutrition information, and one Au Bon Pain customer used the in-store computer to access nutrition information. No patrons at Starbucks reviewed the nutrition information pamphlet that the restaurant makes available. Based on the findings, the researchers conclude that fast-food establishments are ineffectively delivering nutrition information and call for such information to be posted in a more visible place, such as a menu board (Harding, Reuters, 3/26/09; Roberto et al., American Journal of Public Health, May 2009 [subscription required]).

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.  ~Author Unknown

Fitness Motivation:
As we progress in our fitness journey -

you will already have made some sacrifices.

You would have already left behind parts of yourself…

that you may miss today.

If you are on track with your fitness goals then:

- you probably don’t drink out as much

- you don’t munch on snacks while watching tv

- you devote at least an hour to working out a few times a week

- you don’t hang out with people who are bad influences

- you spend more time planning your meals

- you aren’t able to eat what ‘normal’ people eat

BUT

In that sacrifice

you are gaining success.

In order to get somewhere you haven’t been

you are going to do things you’ve never done.

AND BE things you’ve never BEEN.

That is progress.
