Valerie Bertinelli co-hosts on “The View” tomorrow!

Posted by Maria Kang on March 3, 2010

On March 4th, The View will have a special weight-loss role model! I don’t advocate specific programs like Jenny Craig…I just advocate everyone get on something…ANYTHING!

Here are some tips from Valerie for those who are starting on Jenny Craig:

  • “Find a consultant who gets you. Kathy was invaluable to me. She understood how my brain worked, she was patient and she pushed me whenever I needed a nudge. In a nice way though, huh, Kath?
  • “Keep a journal. I didn’t really like this at first but I found that it was too easy to slip into old habits at the beginning. If I wrote down what I was thinking and feeling, it gave me a chance to think a beat or two before I made a decision I’d regret.
  • “Surround yourself with people who care about/know what you’re doing. I used to diet in secret. This was a bad idea for me because then I wasn’t accountable to anyone but myself, (who I was so used to letting down) so one more time didn’t matter.”

Valerie’s tips for clients who have reached halfway on Jenny, or are about to:

  • “Re-evaluate your goal. All I cared about was the number on the scale at the beginning. And then I found that other things were motivating me to lose weight like my health or being able to run farther than one block. Your body changes as you lose weight and other things do, too, so listen to what makes you tick and what will keep making you tick.
  • “Have a plan. Halfway means some meals on your own. Plan in advance what you’ll be ordering at a restaurant or on a plane or a party. Kathy and I used to do only meal planning at some of my consultations where we’d look the restaurant online (they also have a Dining Out Guide with a ton of restaurant menus listed) and we’d “pretend order” in advance. This was great because then I wouldn’t have to think about it.”

Valerie’s tips for clients who are on Jenny Craig’s maintenance program:

  • “Come over to my house and let’s hug it out together. Seriously, changing your life isn’t easy! Lots of support and reminding yourself of all the things that are so much better in your life now is key.”

Pink talks about her “man abs…”

Posted by Maria Kang on December 22, 2009

Pink is looking awesome! I’ve always appreciated her strong physique and formidable attitude. She’s a great fitness role model we can all look towards as we prepare our resolutions for the upcoming year! Check her out in the Jan/Feb issue of Women’s Health magazine.

On her “man abs…”
“My man abs? They’re pretty full-on. It’s like that D’Angelo video [for “How Does It Feel”]; he’s got that V. I get a lot of flak for it. That’s where the masculine thing comes in, people saying it’s not normal for a girl to have [those]. But I’m OK with it. I think it’s because I was a gymnast for eight years, from ages 4 to 12. My body was made before my bones were fully grown. Gymnasts are short, stocky, muscular powerhouses.”

How she stays fit on the road…
“Ever hear of P90X? My brother and his wife are both in the Air Force; they do marathons and triathlons. I went [to visit them and she’s doing P90X]. I couldn’t keep up with her—and she’d just had her first baby four weeks ago. I was like, This is bullshit! I will perfect this thing! So usually, I wake up and do an hour of cardio, then an hour of P90X or yoga, then a half-hour of warm-up [during show rehearsal]. I do that six days a week.”

Her day off…
“I try to make it a show day so I’m still getting cardio. I have to be able to run up those stairs as many times as I do and be able to sing at the same time. I’m an asthmatic. I have to be on that treadmill singing to get my lungs right.”

Why she likes working out…
“I like results. I like feeling strong. It keeps my mental floor higher.”

Does she have a trainer?
“No. I don’t work well with trainers. [Air quotes] “Does not work well with others.”

She knows she’s a 10, right?
“No, no, no!  I feel like a seven and a half!  I’m not going to lie and tell you when I look in the mirror there’s nothing I don’t want to fix.  If they figure out how to stretch me and make me a little bit taller, then maybe I’ll get upwards of eight.”

She has curves we can appreciate.

Kathy Griffin on diet and exercise.

Posted by Maria Kang on September 2, 2009

Kathy Griffin agrees! Regardless of how many surgeries, or how many diet pills one can take…nothing is better than good ol’ exercise!

On Diet Pills:

“I am very proud of my two weeks on speed,” she half-jokes. “It was full-on illegal speed. I took it to lose weight, which is not very smart. I just felt three times as hungry afterward.”

Although once she booked Suddenly Susan, Griffin felt pressure to slim down. “I lost 15 lbs. friggin fast in season 1,” she divulges. “But being on television … I was never thin enough. [Being on TV] told me that clothes didn’t come in anything larger than a four. That got to me.”

She eventually had liposuction, but ended having complications. Currently she’s at 115lbs and stands at 5-foot-3.

On Struggling:

“I struggle with it every day,” she says. “I just came from a very healthy lunch but the whole time I was having the healthy lunch I wished I was having cupcakes. It’s not a simple thing. I have to watch what I eat and I have to work out quite a bit.”

“The funny thing is the lipo, which was more than 10 years ago, has nothing to do with it,” says the comedian. “I actually got into fairly good shape from yawn: diet and exercise.”

Jodie Marsh transforms her body through fitness

Posted by Maria Kang on May 26, 2009

I don’t really know who this person is – but there’s a lot of news about Jodie Marsh today when she revealed a new figure after working out more often with her trainer. She went from skinny fat, to lean and toned.

—-

‘Within two weeks, I had definition in my stomach,’ she said. ‘As I saw my body changing, I really liked my muscles and as Tim (her personal trainer) is a body builder it just went from there.’

Her routine consists of a daily three-mile cross-country walk with her dog. And, she says: ’sex and dancing in nightclubs’.

She also works out at the gym with her trainer two to three times a week, using a Swiss ball and doing free weights for an hour in total.

And she may even compete on the bodybuilder circuit in the future.

Of course, I think the photo makes her look more like a ‘bodybuilder’ because of the posing, but in reality, many celebrities have the same lean physique including Lisa Rinna, Kelly Ripa and Jessica Biel.

Kelly Ripa should be Kelly Ripped-aah!
