My mailbox is getting FLOODED with races coming up in the next few months. Near my Sacramento area is the:

- Apple Hill Harvest Race

- The Kaiser Permanente Veggie Chase

- Run to Feed the Hungry

If you are interested in running or walking for 5k or 10k, then check out Active.com and put in your zipcode to find a race near you!!

These races are a ton of fun.

Fitness Show at Shriner’s Children Hospital.

Posted by Maria Kang on May 30, 2008

The other day I went to Shriner’s Children Hospital to support my girlfriend’s friend who’s child is in the hospital. We were in the burn unit where I saw a ton of kids ages 4-12 in wheel chairs with amputated legs/arms as well as first degree burn areas everywhere from their face, arms, legs, etc. It was a nice experience to spend with my boyfriend David, my girlfriend Janelle and her fitness team from Powerhouse gym.

They performed a small bodybuilding exhibition with many of the competitors at the Contra Costa contest earlier this month. I was supposed to attend but had a family engagement the day of the contest.

Daniel Koyama was the overall winner and he is an absolute AWESOME person inside and out. I’ve seen him a lot at the Powerhouse gym and it was nice to see him again at the charity event. With three other guys he posed and took pics…the kids were definitely happy!

Daniel Koyama!

He won the Light heavy weight and Overall show!

Kids Day at the Capital.

Posted by Maria Kang on April 9, 2008

I spent the whole morning and afternoon  with Fitness without Borders at the State Capital of California. It was Kid’s day! We had face painting, hula hoops and lots of fitness games! I was absolutely amazed at how many kids enjoyed jump roping, running relay races, and performing push up and sit up contests!

There was one girl who performed 1000 jumps while jump roping! Craziness!

Another young girl performed 59 push ups and a boy performed 125 sit ups!

The most rewarding thing about the event was teaching kids who were shy to participate – PARTICIPATE! From young, to old, to fit, to overweight…it was very, very rewarding.

As for my fitness….well, I plan on running 3 miles in 10 minutes. I ran 3 miles last night…

Right now my schedule has been a little hectic. I went to sleep at 33oam last night and woke up at 7am. I’ve been going, going, going since I got back from Disneyland and Magic Mountain.

Workout this week:

Sunday DISNEYLAND – walk all day!!!
Monday REST
Tuesday 3 mile run
Wednesday 3 mile run
Thursday Cardio 2x: stairclimb/zumba – Chest/Shoulders
Friday Back – Stair
Saturday Arms/Lower body – Kickboxing

It was soooo much fun!
